Book Review: The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp

So I really wanted to see this movie but never got around to going to the theaters, and it hasn't been released yet. When I saw the book in Chapters I was really excited and thought that this would help me wait until the movie was released.

This book is a pretty quick read. I was hooked from page one and I think it took me about a week to read.

It is told through the point of view of Sutter Keely, a senior in high school who I would say has a bit of a drinking problem. Although Sutter, himself denies this.

His motto is "embrace the weird" and with an unique name like Sutter I think it is the perfect motto.

It has components of a classic boy meets girl and they fall in love kind of story, however I like how the author makes it unique and that it is read through a guys perspective.

Aimee is the girl. I really like her character. Sometimes I feel that a lot of female characters are portrayed as "she was just your average girl" but isn't really like that. I personally believe that Aimee has a lot of characteristics that people can connect with and parts of her character remind me of my own friends and myself.

I really enjoyed this book, even though it did not have the exact ending I was hoping for but I guess not everything in life can be perfect. That is part of the reason that makes this book more real.

Happy Reading!

Update: I watched the movie and I loved it!
