Amsterdam is probably the most beautiful city I have been in, and it is definitely, 100%, the cleanest city I have ever been in. Not even a cigarette butt on the ground. I am serious there were always people outside sweeping the sidewalk and cleaning the streets.
The architecture in Amsterdam is amazing, I love the tops of the houses. Land costs a lot there and so instead of building houses that expand over a large property, everything is built tall and narrow.
A lot of the houses have hooks just below the roof because the staircases would be too narrow to bring something like a piano up them, so they would have to bring it through a window.
I know everyone says there are a lot of bikes in Amsterdam (and the Netherlands) but I did not imagine how many until I saw this...
The best way to see the city is by a canal cruise. The canal cruises take you all through the city, from the oldest part of the city, to the red light district, past many bridges and houseboats. I think it is a really cool way of seeing the city and you can see everything from the canals.
I only wish I got to spend more time there, instead of just a few hours. Well I guess that means I have an excuse to go again.
Have you been to Amsterdam? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments below.
Happy Travels!
